How To Cut Down On Home Heating Costs
Uncategorized August 10th, 2011Winter heating bills can take a big bite out of the budget, but there are a few things we can do to minimize it.
Have you ever touched a window glass during cold weather? It’s cold! Window glass conducts cold air very well no matter what kind of window you have. Some types will help cut down on the cold coming in, but all glass will allow it. If you have heavy drapes, be sure to pull them against the night cold and even daytime cold.
If you’re shopping for a window treatment, look for drapes or shades that block heat transfer and try to get something that snuggles up to your window. Try to fit it so there is a minimal gap alongside and at top and bottom to keep cold air from entering the room.
Windows are like big holes in your wall, so cutting down on the actual amount of glass will cut down on how much cold air comes in them. You can do this by using drapery panels attached at top and bottom along the outer sides of the window, or install wooden shutters inside. Make them as fancy as you like, but no open work!
