The pursuit of becoming a country that solely depends on alternative energy has been an ongoing battle for well over a decade. While we have made many important strides towards reaching this goal, we still have hurdles to jump before reaching it completely. Fortunately, alternative sources energy such as wind power are a promising prospect in the pursuit of our Eco-friendly goal. As more funds get allocated to exploring alternative sources of energy, we can expect to see many more developments in the world of wind power.

Wind power works by harassing the natural occurrence of wind, and turning it into electricity. This method of alternative energy gets produced through a device called a wind turbine. Wind turbines function the exact opposite way that a fan does, in that instead of using electricity to make wind, they are themselves powered by the wind. As wind blows the blades of the turbine, they turn the large shaft that they connect to, which subsequently powers a generator at the base of the turbine, creating an endless source of energy.

Wind turbines are prevalent in the Mid-West and slowly making their way towards more heavily populated areas. As more research continues on this alternative means of energy, chances are it could be powering homes within the next decade.
