Surviving Winter and Saving Energy

Uncategorized February 3rd, 2012

Children love the winter – all that snow and the possibility of snow days, but if you’re an adult then chances are you regard the season in quite a different way. With dread, perhaps? Who could blame you? When the weather gets colder that usually means the heating costs get higher and unless you have bounce energy or the like then chances are you pay big time whenever the winter worries descend upon your home. However, the fact remains that you can’t just simply go without heating because the only real alternative is freezing – but that doesn’t mean you need to crank up the heat any higher than necessary, either. There are a number of things you can do in the home to stay warm without having to really fire up the heat, and below are just a few suggestions:

1. Window Insulation Kit
These can be found at most hardware stores and are simple and easy-to-use. You simply affix a sheet of thin plastic to cover your window and seal it with heat (usually a hairdryer) to prevent cold air from getting in or warm air from escaping.

2. Dress in Layers
If you have extra clothing or extra blankets, learn to rely upon those during your daily routine. They will help your body conserve its own heat.

3. New Windows
Sure, this seems a little expensive but the amount of money you will save with new, weather-resistant windows more than makes up for the cost of having them put in. This is a bit of an investment, though.
